Description:

Select works of Charles Kingsley compiled into the Eversley Edition, complete in 13 volumes.
Uniformly bound in half morocco bindings by H. Sotheran & Co. with the binder’s stamp to the base of the end paper. Externally, very elegant with gilt titles, gilt decoration to the compartments in an art nouveau style, top page edges gilt, others tanned and marbled end papers.
Pages generally tanned with foxing generally to the start and end of volumes. Frontispiece portrait of Charles Kingsley to Westward Ho.
Comprising of:
Hypatia – 1890 in 2 volumes.
Poems – 1890 in 2 volumes.
Alton Locke – 1893 in 2 volumes.
Hereward the Wake – 1893 in 2 volumes.
Two Years Ago – 1901 in 2 volumes.
Westward Ho! – 1902 in 2 volumes.
Yeast – 1902 in 1 volumes.
Provenance – bookplate for Alexander Stone to the front of each volume.
Approximately 7 ¼ inches tall.

- Spine – fine condition – nice bright gilt titles and decoration to clean and bright morocco leather.
- Joints – fine condition – sound.
- Corners – very good condition – gently worn and bumped.
- Boards – very good condition – cloth and leather, minor marks and wear.
- Page edges – very good condition – top edge gilt, others tanned.

Internally
- Hinges – very good condition – sound, internally the gutter strained to Vol I of Hereward the Wake, before the title page.
- Paste downs – very good condition – marbled paper.
- End papers – very good condition – marbled paper, tanned and foxed subsequently.
- Title – good condition – tanned with some foxing.
- Pages – good condition – tanned with some foxing.
- Binding – fine condition – attractive.
