Having endured two disappointing seasons, numerous mistakes, especially with wind tunnel calculations, helped make the 2002 season even worse for the Jaguar Racing F1 Team. However, after a "B-Spec" model was introduced at the British Grand Prix, and further updates made, results improved towards the end of the season.

After a rather fortuitous fourth in an opening Australian Grand Prix of high attrition, the R3's unreliability saw Eddie Irvine suffer ten retirements, punctuated by a seventh in Brazil, and ninth in Monaco. With updates improving the "B-Spec" car's performance, round fourteen saw Irvine take sixth place in Belgium, before claiming the team's final podium finish with third next time out at Monza.

Scoring all of the team's eight points, Eddie Irvine finished ninth in the drivers' standings, with Jaguar seventh in the constructors'.
