RARE Minichamps 1:43 McLaren-Ford MP4/8 Michael Andretti 1993.

No.2 in the McLaren Collection, a RARE, finely detailed Minichamps 1:43 scale replica model McLaren-Ford MP4/8, driven by Michael Andretti in thirteen of the sixteen race 1993 Formula One season.

With Honda pulling out of F1, McLaren were forced to use the customer Ford HBD7, 3.5-litre V8 engine until a supply of the higher-spec HBA8 V8 was secured after the British Grand Prix. However, thanks to some remarkable results with the underpowered car by Ayrton Senna, who took the drivers' championship to the final few rounds, McLaren scored 84 points to finish second in the Constructors' Championship.

Joining McLaren from the CART Championship, Michael Andretti suffer a dismal time in Formula One. While restrictions on the the amount of test teams were allowed did not help, by continuing to reside in the United States meant he also missed several test days. Andretti also never got to grips with highly technical aspects of the car, such as active suspension and traction control, or tested in wet conditions, and a string of collisions early on meant he completed only three laps in the first three races.
Following four successive retirements, Andretti scored his first F1 points when finishing fifth in Spain, with another point added for sixth in France two races later. Eighth in Belgium, after three successive retirements, was followed with a first and only F1 podium third in the Italian Grand Prix. Ironically after a mutual agreement to be released from his contract.
Andretti's seven points placed him eleventh in the drivers standing.
