This job lot of antique & vintage adverts is for Glaxo and Allenburys baby food and milk, Allenburys pastilles and Beechams, Venos, Phensic & Germolene. Allenburys is an Allen & Hanburys Ltd brand; Allen & Hanburys itself eventually became part of the Glaxo Group. Most of the advertising material dates to the early 1900s. All the adverts have been carefully cut from period magazines:-

Glaxo Builds Bonnie Babies 1921

This advert for Glaxo baby milk has been cut from the 28^th December, 1921 edition of Punch magazine. The reverse of the advert is the front cover of the magazine.

Approximate measurements: 8.5 x 11.2 inches.

In used antique condition with yellowing of the paper and foxing around the edges commensurate with age and handling – please see photos.

Allenburys Progressive System of Infant Feeding, 1927

This advert for Allenburys Milk Foods No’s 1, 2 and 3 has been cut from the November 1927 edition of The Ideal Home magazine. The reverse of the advert has adverts for Lefco Fireplaces, Fastain, Mazawattee Tea, Chesham Tables and Alexander Stair Carpet Holders.

Approximate measurements: 8.4 x 11.1 inches.

In used vintage condition with yellowing of the paper and slight creasing commensurate with age and handling – please see photos.

Allenburys Foods for Infants, 1936

This advert for Allenburys Milk Foods No’s 1, 2 & 3 and Allenburys Rusks has been cut from an unknown, undated magazine. Someone has pencilled the year 1936 on the reverse and although I cannot confirm this date, the fact that the reverse carries adverts for 1937 annuals suggests that 1936 is correct. The reverse of the advert has adverts for the following 1937 annuals – Bruin Boys, The Triumph, Bubbles, Boys Cinema, Puck, Mrs Hippos and The Golden Annual for Girls.

Approximate measurements: 8.4 x 11.5 inches.

Allenburys Glycerine and Blackcurrant Pastilles, Tetleys Smoking Mixture adverts

There are two similar advertisements for Allenburys Glycerine and Blackcurrant Pastilles plus another for Tetley’s Smoking Mixture. They have all been carefully cut from Punch magazine. The cutting with both the Tetley’s and one of the Allenburys adverts on one piece of paper is dated October 8 1913.

The single Allenburys advert has part of an advert for Punch magazine on the reverse – please see photos.

The cutting with both the Tetley’s and one of the Allenburys adverts on one piece of paper has several small complete adverts and appeals for donations on the reverse. The small adverts are for Droitwich Brine Crystals, Novio Toilet Paper, Gillot’s Pens, Boots Chemists, Zematone Powders & Cigarettes. The appeals for donations are for The Metropolitan Hospital, The City of London Hospital for Diseases of the Chest, Spurgeon’s Orphanage and The Great Northern Central Hospital. Please see photos.

Single Allenburys advert: 10 x 14.2 cm.
Combined Allenburys & Tetley’s adverts: 10.2 x 28.2 cm.
If separated, each of the combined adverts would measure 10.2 x 14.1

The adverts are in used antique condition, the paper is slightly yellowed this being commensurate with age, please see photos.

1960s School Quiz Cards

This series of School Quiz Cards dates to the 1960s, each card has a different quiz on the front and a different advert on the back for either Beecham’s Pills, Beecham’s Powders, Veno’s, Phensic or Germolene. There are 9 cards in total, none have been written on.

Approximate measurements of each card: 6.5 x 4 inches.

In vintage condition, the cards are slightly yellowed, this being commensurate with age, there are a few isolated grubby marks and / or creases – please see photos.
