You're bidding on "Look! There Goes Mack The Knife!", an original etching - 14" X 17 1/2" - titled within the image and pencil-signed and numbered below the plate mark by artist Jack Levine. Number 8 in an edition of 45. Not sure if the Roman numerals indicate it's an artist proof or private edition, as it was ultimately issued in 1967 in an edition of 100 as part of a set of 25 prints, "The Dreigroschen Film Suite", depicting scenes from "The Threepenny Opera".

Print appears to depict the prelude of the opera, where a street singer performs the song "Mack the Knife", the now classic standard, which prepares the audience for the villainy of the character. Print is a fun depiction, with Mack hurrying out of the scene at bottom while the singer transfixes a crowd and a policeman looks on with arms crossed.

Jack Levine (1915-2010) was a painter and printmaker most closely identified with a regionalist artistic movement known as "Boston Expressionism". Much of his work has a satirical or socio-political bent to it, which is probably what attracted him to a project like The Threepenny Opera, a Socialist critique of Capitalism.

Note some issues of condition - mainly, matting burn around the image, but away from the plate marks and signature. Also, there are some vertical lines on the back of the piece from whatever previously backed the piece in its prior framing, and this is very lightly visible on the front side. Note some residual matting tape on the reverse bottom edge. SOLD AS IS AS FOUND.

Still decent presentation and appeal - please review photos carefully to make your own determination of condition and appeal, and don't hesitate to ask any questions prior to bidding - thanks for looking!
