The Dan Armstrong Purple Peaker was first marketed in the 1970s as part of the "color" named small effect boxes built by Mu-Tron in New Jersey. Sibling effects were the Yellow Humper, Blue Clipper, Red Ranger, etc. These effects were built to plug straight into the guitar or amp. Boxes were simple extruded aluminum square tubing fitted with cover plates. A hard wired male 1/4" plug, toggle bypass switch and female 1/4" out jack were the main features on the boxes.

The Purple Peaker has a three position switch to select one, both, or neither of the two peaks. In the "1" position, the Peaker introduces a 12 db peak centered at 4000 Hz which gives the instrument more "presence" or "bite". In the "2" position it produces the same presence peak plus a 7 db peak at 200 Hz to give the instrument more bottom or "punch". In the "Off' position neither peak is produced, but the guitar's signal is still improved, since the Peaker's low impedance 200 ohm Output eliminates signal loss and hum pick-up, even with very long cables. The Purple Peaker makes weak-sounding instruments sound fuller, and full-sounding instruments sound super. It is also excellent for musicians who want to record themselves by plugging directly into a tape machine without going through an amp. The Purple Peaker has an Input Impedance of 100 k Ohms, and an excellent Signal-to-Noise ratio of 90 db.

In the 80's, WD licensed the designs for a while made in Korea. They have long since been discontinued.

This one is NEW OLD STOCK, meaning that it was purchased by Subway Guitars in the '80s and stored since then. It includes the original box and owner's manual. This item has never been sold. We carefully removed it from the box in order to test it, and it works great. It was carefully repacked and it presents as a new item. A real time machine piece.

For safety reasons, we will ship it without the 9-volt batter
