This Brazilian species inhabits a narrow coastal strip.
It grows at approximately 350 ft elevation in shade near swampy ponds or edges of watercourses. 
They are small stature plants at 12 to 14" in height.
 The 3 to 4" blooms are held just above the foliage, with 1 to 2 flowers per inflorescence.
