Cigar box guitars are a lost art and tradition. From Muddy Waters to Lightnin' Hopkin's, many of the early Blues musicians got their start by making and playing these homemade instruments.  Since the mid 1860's up to the early 1950's with Bo Diddly's Rock invasion, building your own homemade or cigar box guitar was quite common. Well before musical instrument mass production brought the cost down, people made their own guitar or stringed instrument out of different types of cigar boxes and scavenged or found wood.

If you enjoy playing Delta Blues, this guitar is set up for both finger picking or slide guitar,  go from gritty blues to clear country and everything in between. This is an all handmade and homemade cigar box guitar. This guitar is the exact same as all my other guitars I make in wood, but this is I used a rustic satin black antique theme. Its smooth to the touch but looks a 100 years old.

This guitar is the Old Timer and has vintage style hand drawn art that I drew and etched into the metal top of the pickup. Photos don't do it justice, it looks old but it's not, it is absolutely smooth and satin to the touch and if you want to play Blues this guitar will give you a pure and authentic tone you've been after. This guitar can capture that early 1900's sound by even a beginning player, and a pro can record with a tone that can't be achieved on a factory made guitar.

All of my guitars sound and play the same as I make all my guitars the same way. The recipe I use to capture that old time Blues sound works for me so I do everything the same. I make the pickups the same,  the action and scale length, everything is the same in all my guitars. No matter if it's a resonator, or a cigar box acoustic / electric guitar, I always make them the same.  Only the outside appearances and artwork look different,  but all my guitars are really the same inside and out.

I hope that this guitar speaks to you and you accept the time and effort I have put into it. You will cherish it for the remainder of your life, it will be next to your chair in the living room, it will be on the sofa or you'll play it in bed while watching TV everyday, it was made to be your most prized guitar! This is an everyday player, not just another guitar for your collection, you will play this guitar constantly.

I can say its easily the coolest guitar you'll ever own .....Goggle Red Dog guitars. You can read more about my art and the history of cigar box guitars.

If you have found yourself here and wondering what exactly is a cigar box guitar?

Since the mid 1860's, it's been common for poor people to make their own guitar or stringed instrument out of old and used cigar boxes and scavenged or found wood. If you wanted to play guitar and didn't have any money, you'd have to build a guitar yourself.

In small towns in the southern United States, you can still hear stories about those old school Bluesmen of the past such as Lightnin' Hopkins, Scrapper Blackwell, Little Freddie King and many others who got their start in music by building their own homemade guitar.
One reason early American Blues music has such a distinctive sound is because it has an origin based on these simple homemade instruments. From Muddy Waters to Elmore James, many great blues guitarist were influenced by them in their slide guitar playing. This long forgotten part of history is an important chapter in the story of early "Delta Blues" and its roots of slide guitar from the Southern Delta.
