Islamic Indian Earthenware Bowl

A large and imposing Indian Islamic region earthenware bowl.  It is painted with inter-locking circles and decoration in aubergine and turquoise tones. The exterior features Mihrab forms over the plain glaze.  It is large enough to make a centerpiece or focal feature.  It was fired in a relatively uncontrolled kiln and dates to the colonial period when the region, Sindh or Multan, was still part of India.  A nice ethnographic piece, late 19th or early 20th century.  

There is a wire through the foot rim holes to allow for hanging, the cork pad has been glued on to stop it scraping the wall while hanging could be easily removed.

 

Condition

Some rim chips, largest shown in close up.  Numerous typical firing and potting flaws as you would expect for these pieces.  Hairline through the base center from firing stresses.
