How would like a 7" HD weather display for your WeatherFlow Tempest? Keep reading to learn more...

But first, you MUST own a WeatherFlow Tempest, or have the ability to obtain the required WeatherFlow API key from a family member or friend.

One of the biggest complaints about the WeatherFlow Tempest is that there is no dedicated display. This device solves this problem by providing a convenient, well-organized summary of all weather data from the Tempest weather station. Weather data is updated every one minute with rapid wind updates as soon as every 3 seconds. The WeatherFlow Air is optional for indoor temperatures.

The WeatherFlow Pi Console displays the following information provided by your Tempest:
  • Outdoor temperature with dew point, humidity, and feels like temperature
  • Indoor temperature if you have the WeatherFlow Air (the predecessor to the Tempest)
  • Outdoor and indoor (only with the Air module) daily min and max values along with the time of occurrence
  • Outdoor temperature 24-hour difference and hourly temperature trend
  • Wind speed (average, lull, and gust) with direction (degrees and cardinal) provided by 3-second rapid wind updates
  • Daily maximum wind gust and daily average speed
  • Barometer with atmospheric pressure, pressure trend, current condition, and daily min and max values
  • Rainfall totals for today, yesterday, month, and year
  • When raining, see the precipitation rate and description (light, moderate, heavy, etc)
  • Lightning time and distance since the last strike
  • Lightning strike totals for the last 3 hours, today, yesterday, month, and year
  • Solar radiation and UV index
  • Sunrise/sunset times and number of hours until dawn and sunset
  • Moonrise and moonset times, moon phase, and date of next full moon and new moon
  • Your specific Hourly forecast provided by WeatherFlow
  • Location-specific Sager Weathercaster forecast
  • Setting screen to change time/date formats and display units
  • Screen layout can be changed by editing the configuration file
  • New: 1, 4, or 6-panel screen layout
  • New: Internet connection optional (LAN connection still required -- either wired or wireless)
This weather display has a kickstand to allow it to sit on your table, countertop, etc. There is also 75mm mounting holes on the back.

On the top, there are power, menu, and navigation buttons. You will most likely only need the menu for adjusting brightness and controlling the fan. The power button can be used to power cycle the display should it need to be rebooted.

On one side, there are HDMI, USB-C, and Audio inputs (not outputs). The display can also function as a touchscreen monitor for your computer, tablet, or smartphone. While this is not the main function of this particular setup, it is a bonus. The USB-C and HDMI cables are included.

This weather display device is based on the Raspberry Pi, Raspbian Bullseye OS, and the open-source WeatherFlow Pi Console software. The software was recently updated to version 24.5.1. The Raspberry Pi USB and EtherNet ports are fully accessible. You could gain access to the audio out jack should you need it. The internal HDMI port is occupied. The case has a cooling fan on the back that can be switched on and off. The fan isn't the quietest, but won't be disturbing to most people.

You will receive the 7" weather-display device and the 12v power supply for the U.S. The HDMI and USB-C cables are also included (only needed should you use the display as a monitor).

After purchase, I can set up the display device for you if you would like. You will need to send me some information about your Tempest. Once you receive the display unit, use the touchscreen display to connect to your home Wi-Fi. You can also connect the display to a wired network if you wish.
