Hand Boiler, Love Meter, Energy Transfer Science Experiment
Also known as a “love meter.” A partially evacuated glass tube is filled with a liquid that has a very low boiling point. When you wrap your hand around the bottom bulb, the heat and the low pressure inside the tube combine to cause the liquid to boil. The liquid boils upward into the opposite chamber and completely unfounded romantic aspersions are cast about. Demonstrates boiling point, the effect of atmospheric pressure on the boiling point, and the transfer of heat through conduction.
