This week I'm offering a variety of collectibles, including trading cards as well as comics. In the Seventies, Marvel allowed its younger writers to cut loose and come up with some very odd ideas. Steve Gerber came up with the idea of a character who could be used to parody the entire superhero genre - a cigar-smoking, talking duck. Thus was born Howard the Duck. His memory has been tarnished by the disastrous movie that was eventually produced, but for a few years, he was the hottest thing in comics, illustrated early on by Frank Brunner and later by Gene Colan, with stories that poked fun at every aspect of the comics world. It's a series that deserves to be remembered perhaps a bit better than it is. After creator Steve Gerber left the title and the color comic was discontinued, Marvel shifted the character to a black and white magazine series that lasted nine issues, written by others but still mostly illustrated by Gene Colan. Here I have Howard the Duck Magazine#1, dated October 1979. It's in very good/fine condition overall, with some yellowing at the spine and at the top and bottom back cover - see scans for condition. This would be a terrific addition to any collection! Shipping is $3.50 for First Class Mail, and I'll combine and discount shipping costs for multiple winnings. Payment is via PayPal only.
