TENUGUI

Tenugui is a thin Japanese hand towel made of cotton.

It is typically about 35 by 90 centimeters in size, and is almost always printed with some pattern.

It can be used as a washcloth, dishcloth, headband, souvenir or decoration.

Japanese traditional tenugui is purposely not hemmed in order to get dried quickly, so bacteria doesn't grow inside it, and to be torn easily. Therefore tenugui used to be used as a material for first aid as well.

How to take care of tenugui

As you wash tenugui, threads may come apart from the both ends. These threads should not be pulled. Please trim them with scissors occasionally. Usually, these excess threads will stop coming loose at around one centimeter from the edge.
