Matcha is  super concentrated green tea powder thats packed with antioxidants and nutrients.
Our Organic Matcha contains 137 times the antioxidants of regular green tea !
Like all green tea, Matcha naturally contains caffeine but unlike coffee,
it works together with two important amino acids to give you a sustained energy lift
whilst keeping you calm and providing a healthy metabolism boost. It also elevates your mood !
For maximum nutritional benefit, matcha tea is unparalleled.

The health benefits of matcha tea exceed those of green tea
because when you drink matcha you ingest the whole leaf, not just the brewed water.
One glass of matcha is the equivalent of 10 glasses of green tea in terms of its nutritional value and antioxidant content

Prior to the harvest of matcha tea plants they are covered with  shade  to prevent direct sunlight from falling on them.
This is done in order to slow their growth.
The leaves become a  darker green and  amino acids develop , this makes the Tea taste sweeter.
It is the process that the leaves undergo after the harvesting that determines the type of tea that will be produced.

One of the varieties that come under the matcha green tea umbrella is tencha.
This is produced by laying  the leaves out flat and allowing them to dry. Soon they crumble and give form to tencha tea.
It is the presence of amino acids in matcha green tea that are responsible for giving it the flavor for which it is admired.
The sweeter the matcha tea the better it is considered to be in terms of quality and of course the more expensive it will be.

It is said that the foundations of this trade were laid down during the Song Dynasty.
With the advent of Zen Buddhism into the country the production and consumption of matcha green tea became widespread.
Matcha green tea actually became the official drink of the Buddhist monks.
It can take up to one hour to grind 30 grams of matcha.

Energising and calming
Matcha naturally contains theophylline and theannine
They act together to give a our bodies an energy boost lasting 3 to 6 hours while helping you remain calm and focused.
Just the thing if you are a Buddist monk about to embark on a lengthy period of mediation.

        Metabolism boosting
And then there’s this study that made it into the American journal of nutrition that established that green tea ‘increased energy expenditure’ – otherwise known as metabolism boosting.
It states that drinking green tea on a regular basis boosts the metabolism by as much as 35-40%.

Nutrient and antioxidant blast

Green tea has long been the beverage of choice for the health conscious amongst us, in part because of the high levels of antioxidants, minerals, vitamins, and nutrients.
Studies found that there were 137 x more antioxidants in a Matcha infusion

compared to a standard green tea infused from a tea bag.

Its also reported that Matcha contains 70 x the antioxidant power of orange juice
and 9 x the beta carotene level of spinach.

But you can forget about all that, all you really need to remember is that it’s very, very good for you

- probably the world’s most powerful natural beverage.

The Japanese tea ceremony is an ancient ritual ultimately influenced by Zen Buddhism
in which matcha, the powdered green tea, is prepared and served to a small group of guests.
A tea ceremony can last between one and five hours,
depending on the type of ceremony performed, the number of guests, and the types of meal and tea served.
A tea practitioner must be familiar with all facets of tea preparation,
as well as a wide range of other disciplines and traditional arts in addition to his or her school’s tea practices.
These studies can last a lifetime.
