Body of New Wood Sanshin is made from wood, while other types of body of Okinawa sanshin is covered with genuine or artificial snakeskin.
Back side of body of New Wood Sanshin is left uncovered in order to increase volume and enhance the sound.

The kunkunshi position labels in which the correct position was marked is already stuck on it. Indispensable for the beginner, these labels will help guide your fingers to the correct positions.

Okinawa sanshin and Shamisen are different kind of musical instrument as Classic guitar, Folk guitar and Ukulele are different kind of musical instrument.

Okinawa Sanshin and Shamisen are different sized and shape. So their neck and strings are overloaded more than required if Okinawa sanshin is set up strings by high tension such as Shamisen.

Okinawa Sanshin is tuned in C for the Female string F for the inner string and C for the Male string, just one octave lower than the female one. Usually the first string you want to tune is the Female string. Female string is the smallest one and it is tight on the Last Karakui, the one on the top right. The middle line is set on the single Karakui on the upper side of the instrument while the Male string, the biggest one is set on the first Karakui. They are as follows.

Later, the Sanshin made its way into the hands of the common people of Okinawa and folk songs began to emerge.
The Sanshin has a unique relaxing sound, as well as an upbeat festive sound.
