These pedals are in very good condition and have through-the-hole components. They were made before Boss changed the circuitry to surface mount parts in order to save on production cost. Good luck getting one of those repaired or modified :)

That all sounds good on paper. You want the truth?
The BD-2 is a good pedal, but the truth is much of the range of sound is unusable. And what is up with that splatty, fizzy, decay sound?
"Oh no, he di' int just say that!"
Before you get mad at me for saying that, you should know that others do have similar feelings. The Analogman described the stock BD-2 as "quite the ice pick in the ear."
The Blue Dream mod is a bit more intricate than most BD-2 mods out there. This mod goes a little further to eliminate the sounds you don't want, and to bring out the sounds you do want. That fizzy decay sound of the stock BD-2 is a result of too much gain and pre-clipping bass. To get rid of it you have to reduce the amount of gain in each clipping stage. Then the lower gain will need to be compensated through the clipping diodes with a larger threshold. Then the best place to add bass is in the capacitors after the clipping.
Now you can use more of the full range of the pedal.
We also fattened up the sound. The pedal has overall better tone, especially improved is the bass response. Some players like this pedal for bass.
There is a bass boost switch installed similar to that of the subtle Keeley phat switch, only it works off of a different capacitor, and the bass boost on this switch is a little more noticeable. And of course we put in a nice water/clear blue LED. The LED is clear when off, and a nice bright blue when on.

"I received my SD-1 and BD-2 today and had an hour or so to play with them. Man, what a difference. The BD-2 is definitely smoother and more open, for lack of a better way of putting it. It can be plenty beefy with the switch engaged and the high end fizziness is gone. Great sounding pedal just made better.
I gotta tell you though, the modded SD-1 is the pedal that blows me away. Before the mod it sounded okay. Decent OD that just sounded a bit muffled. The tone was there just hidden a little. Now it is wide open and sounds fantastic, more transparent to use the cliche. I have been using an MXR Custom Badass Modiified OD and I think it may be kicked to the side, at least for a little while. And (God forbid I say it) my FullDrive 2 Mosfet may get sold. This pedal sounds better (to my ear anyway) than some $100+ "custom"/boutique units....I am impressed."

Oh my I get this awesome massive clean sound and then I hit the klon and BANG it goes to a beautiful dirty rocky/bluesy type tone which is just thick.... Your pedal is very very similar to the Paul Cochrane Tim and they cost a fortune.

Mike! I got your modded Boss BD2 on Ebay and love it. I play amplified blues harp and have been looking for a way to dirty up my sound while running through a clean amp. This thing is great. The bass boost works very well and the gain is right in the range that works for Shure bullet mics with vintage elements. Lots of tonal control and as much or as little crunch as I want. Don't think you intended you mods for this application but they works like charm. THANKS!
