- Chikan is a kind of embroidery done only in Lucknow in north India
- Chikan was invented by Nawabs of Lucknow the rulers of the region prior to The Great Uprising of 1857
- Chikan is not just about embroidery but also involves a very special kind of bleach or processing done only in Lucknow
- What distinguishes Chikan from any other handwork is the sobriety of the garment it is very muted not loud and gaudy which was the hallmark of culture of Nawabs of Lucknow
- Strictly speaking only pure cotton garments handembroidered with tradition chikan work can be called Chikan. Chikan garments are seldom coloured and even if they are the embroidery is done with white thread.
- Chikan can only be made in Lucknow because it is done only by women behind veil and is passed on from one generation to another of expert artisans
What is up for sale?- Up for sale is the very special Hand embroidered in Chikankari embroidery pure cotton kurta or a long shirt such as is worn by millions of Indians
- Though traditionally worn only by gents it is now a favourite of young ladies too who find it comfortable and stylish
- In the listing picture the model is wearing a 'pyjama' or pants also but this listing is only for the kurta or top as people generally wear kurta on a jeans or trousers outside India
- Kindly note that pattern and embroidery may differ slightly from one shown in picture but basic set up will be same as each kurta has a slightly different embroidery
- Be very careful while selecting size because size varies from country to country the rule of thumb is to add 5-8 inches to your actual chest circumference and then choose size from the chart below remeber a 'kurta' is worn loose it is not a figure hugging garment and if it reaches anywhere from halfway down the thigh to almost upto the knee it is absolutely acceptable.
- Given below is the kurta chest circumference according to size. Kindly note the size below is size of garment and not body chest measurement. The largest kurta we have has a chest measurement of 54 inches so kindly check with us if you need a kurta larger than this :-)
XS- 40 inchesS- 42 inches M- 44 inches L- 46 inches XL- 48 inches 2XL- 50 inches 3XL- 52 inches
- If there is a difference of an inch or two in above measurements it does not really matter

Shipping and when will you get your item?- Free shipping means shipping by registered airmail in an envelope which will take at least 3-4 weeks and 5-6 weeks for Russian Federation and some other countries
- If you want item fast kindly choose expedited shipping in which case item will be sent by Speed Post which may take 1.5 to 3 weeks depending upon custom clearance duration
- All timelines increase by one week in December-January due to Christmas overload
