When to use desiccant (moisture absorbers):  In general we don't recommend using desiccant in food storage unless your humidity level is above 25-30% on the day you package your food.  If it is humid, using a desiccant will reduce the moisture levels in your bags and help protect your food.
1 Gram Desiccant (Packs of 50) - Protects 47 cubic inches; use 1 in a 1 quart container.
2 Gram Desiccant (Packs of 50) - Protects 94 cubic inches; use 1 in a 1 gallon container.
3 Gram Desiccant (Packs of 20) - Protects 141 cubic inches; use 1 in porous 1 gallon, or use 2 in a 2 gallon container.
10 Gram Desiccant (Packs of 20) - Protects 470 cubic inches; use 1 in a 5 gallon container.

How to seal:  If you are only doing a few bags, a clothes iron (on the wool setting or a little higher) or a hair straightener work perfectly.  If you are a business or prep group sealing hundreds of bags, consider a KF-150cst Heat Sealer hand sealer to make the job a breeze. 

How Many Oxygen Absorbers Should I Use?:  The general rule of thumb is to use 300-500cc per 1 gallon of bag.  Thus for a 1 gallon bag, use 1-2 300cc oxygen absorbers.  For a 5 gallon bag, use a 2000cc oxygen absorber.
