using 18mm) and transom, plus half a sheet of 9mm or 12mm for the seats, knees and breast hook, or solid timber to fit, (The moulds can be made from 12mm chipboard or MDF as a possibly cheaper option.

These plans are for the "WINCHELSEA 10", a very popular DIY designAs with my Winchelsea 8, it’s a multi -chine clinker style dinghy with 6 planks per side that has a variety of uses. It can be rowed, sailed or motored and is a sturdy little vessel. (These plans are the Rowing/Motor version but a sail rig could be adapted and details of a sail rig are given in the plans). The size of this boat means you can't get the length of all the planks from a single sheet of plywood so all the planks are in two pieces and you have to "scarf" them together. A full explanation of this is in the plans. It is built in the Clinker Ply or Lap Stitch method over temporary moulds in a more traditional way. Not as simple perhaps as Stitch & Tape but hasn't posed too many problems for our builders so far. The pictures are of boats built by novice builders.

A light boat for size and design with a dry weight of around 100 – 125lbs and is best transported on a small trailer. She performs well with an outboard motor and will take a small lightweight outboard up to 2hp – 3hp max for motoring around your local water. The plans detail the extra strength added to the transom for an outboard motor.

The building of this boat requires average DIY skills and a few basic tools. The first boat was built in a warmly heated garage using just an electric drill with a sanding disc, a jig saw, a pair of pliers, a sharp one-inch chisel, an orbital sander and a hot air gun. The only specialist tool used was the personal choice of the builder, a Japanese pull saw with which he cut out all the planks by hand. The most important thing is to just take your time. Don’t try to rush things. Remember, if you need it, there is email support to help you.

This boat will motor a crew of three comfortably as can be seen in one of the pictures. It will take around 40 - 60hrs to build.

(Winchelsea is built over a simple mould).

STANLEY SmallCraft is a business seller. We have been designing, building and repairing small boats for over 30 years and have been building our own, original designs for 20 years.  In the past 12 years, we have sold some of the more popular designs as DIY plans, all over the world.

We have built each design ourselves, several times - some a great many times – using ordinary DIY tools so we can get a better idea of the problems our builders may come across. We are constantly looking for ways to upgrade and improve the plans to make it as easy as we can for you to build from them. We welcome your feedback and always like to see pictures of your finished boat.

We also sell kits, builder packs (epoxy materials etc.), and complete custom built boats, some of which are sold on ebay. Details of everything we do is on our website and more information is sent with your plans.

If after buying you are not completely satisfied with any aspect of our service to you, please contact us before leaving feedback and we will put things right.
