Metal Testing Magnet Set (10 pc bulk pack) For Recycling Industrial Metals And Testing Gold, Silver, Etc.
We
have mounted a powerful 1/2" diameter x 1/2" tall cylinder N52 grade
neodymium-iron-boron magnet in an aluminum case for industrial and hobby
use. It comes with an extra heavy duty split ring for attaching a hook,
rope, wire, or fishing line. Here are some possible uses:- Identify and sort steel grades and metal alloys that contain iron, nickel, or cobalt (limitations exist).
- Identify/sort chrome plated steel items from polished aluminum, silver, and non-magnetic grades of stainless steel.
- Identify/sort solid brass and bronze from plated steel items (handy in the antique market and hardware store).
- Identify/sort
some types of costume (fake) jewelry, which often use steel or nickel
as the base material under the plating. Please be aware, many nickel
alloys including cupronickel (modern US 5 cent coins), German Silver,
Nickel Silver, will not react to the magnet, despite containing nickel.
It has to do with the crystal structure of the metal, and is the same
reason that some stainless steels are non-magnetic, even though they
contain two ferromagnetic elements.
- Use as a very powerful magnetic pickup, not like those 1/2 pound jokes at the hardware store.
- Also handy for science experiments involving ferromagnetism.
The
magnet insert is rated at 18 lbs (as with all magnets, this rating
depends on the magnet mating to a smooth, flat, unpainted steel
surface). Take a look at the pictures, it holds a 13 lb sledge hammer
with rough and rounded edges in mid air with no
problems. A vinyl cap is included to buffer the strength of the magnet
and protect the head when it is not in use.
Dimensions (each) are:
3/4" (19mm)diameter x 7/8" (22mm) tall head
2" (50mm)overall length
3/8" (10mm) diameter handle
1/2" (13mm) diameter heavy-duty stainless steel split ring.
