The RYR BAY 228 has 2 planks per side fitted to a wide bottom plank and can be built to row, motor and/or sail. The boat is built using 2 sheets of 6mm and half sheet of 12mm marine plywood, or you can use solid wood, and a few lengths of timber. It uses about 3 kg/ltr of epoxy with approximately 200g fillet mix (West System 405 for example). It is built using the Stitch & Tape build method and takes around 7 days work to complete the rowing/motor version but the sailing version takes longer. This is probably the easiest DIY build method well suited to the novice DIY boat builder.

Use for fishing, as a tender, for sailing or just pottering about on your local water.

It will take a small outboard - petrol or electric.

Basic materials guide,

2 sheets of plywood for the hull component parts plus a few lengths if wood for the trim and build frame etc. plus a minimum 3kg (3ltr) epoxy pack and additives for fillets, paint and varnish.

The building of this boat requires average DIY skills and a few basic tools. T
