Madama Butterfly (Madame Butterfly) is an opera in three acts (originally two acts) by Giacomo Puccini, with an Italian libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa.

Puccini wrote five versions of the opera. The original version was in two acts and had its premiere on February 17, 1904, at La Scala in Milan. After a disastrous premiere, Puccini withdrew the opera and substantially rewrote it, this time in three acts. This second version was performed on May 28, 1904, in Brescia, where it was a great success. It was this second version that premiered in the United States in 1906, first in Washington, D.C., in October, and then in New York in November, by Henry Savage's New English Opera Company (so named because it performed in English-language translations).

RPM RECORDS: VINYL OLDIES

The Vinyl record grading standards provided below will help you to better understand the condition.

GOLDMINE grading standards used.

MINT (M) Absolutely perfect in every way.

Near Mint
(M-) A nearly perfect record. The record shows no obvious sign of wear. The vinyl or sleeve should have at the most a very minor defect.

Very Good Plus,Plus VG++ May have a tiny scuff, light scratch or insignificgant defect that prevents me from grading it Near mint

Very Good Plus (VG+) Worth 1/2 the value of near mint. A VG+ will show signs of being played and handled. The vinyl will show signs of surface wear it may have scuffs or light scratches that don't affect the listening experience. They may have slight warps that do not affect the sound.
The label or picture sleeve may have light ringwear or discoloration. Jacket or P.S. might have a cut-out or bent corner (dog-ear) or a slight seam split.

Very Good
(VG) Many of the defects found in a VG record will be more pronounced in a VG record.Surface noise will be evident when playing, especially in soft passages and during a songs intro and fade as well as between the tracks. The noise should not overpower the music.
Groove wear will start to be noticeable,as will light scratches (deep enough to feel with a finger nail) that will affect the sound.
Labels may have writing,or tape or stickers (or their residue)attached. The same will be true of picture sleeves.A VG record should have no more than 2 or 3 of these problems at the same time.Regardless of defects found in VG vinyl it is an inexpensive alternative to a NM copy.A VG record is a desirable addition for many collectors.
Good (G), Good Plus (GD+) Will have any one or more of the above listed defects. Either one can be played on a turntable without skipping. It will have significant surface noise and scratches as well as visible groove wear.
A sleeve will have seam splits.Tape, writing, ring wear or other defects will be much more pronounced.
Poor (P),Fair (F) Can be cracked, warped won't play through without skipping or repeating. The picture sleeve is water damaged ,split on all 3 sides or heavily laden with wear or writing. These would only be sought after if they are extremely rare and held until a better copy comes along.
