A beautiful group of pre-war Japanese porcelain. A 3-piece tea set with low melon-ribbed bodies on scrolled feet. Each piece is painted with Peonies on one side and a vignette of two women in a Tea House on the other. Gilded, some raised enamel detailing. No chips, cracks or flakes. The pot measures 8" from handle to spout, and 4.5" tall. There is a mark - I'm not familiar with it. It looks like an hourglass in a circle, surrounded by Japanese characters, stamped in green.
There is also an additional sugar bowl with scrolled handles and painted with purple/pink orchids. There is a crack underneath the lid's finial, and a small chip on the underside of the bowl's rim. Not visible. No mark on the underside. The fifth piece is a small 5.5" bowl, painted with roses. Raised gilded scrollwork and trim. Some wear to gilding, no damage otherwise. Also unmarked.
