Tatar maple

Latin name: Acer tataricum

Tatar maple is native to Europe and Asia Minor.
In nature, it grows mainly in calcareous hornbeam-oak forests and forest steppes.
In spring, its juice that emerges from the knots is used for sugar production.
Its sugar content is well below the sugar content of the sugar maple.
Its seeds can be eaten cooked.
This ornamental tree is a real eye-catcher with its attractive, dark red autumn colour.
