The Aqua Manta breeding box is ideal for housing fish outside the aquarium whilst still utilising the water from the aquarium. This clever breeding box can be used for housing female fish that are about to release young (such as livebearers & mouth brooders) and also for isolating fry before introducing them to the main aquarium. It is also suitable for housing Betta fish.

Available in two sizes – Small & Large, this innovative, new breeding box is ideal for people who are interested in breeding their fish, whether deliberately or by accident. The large breeding box comes with separators to house multiple fish or different species of fish fry.

How does it work?

Unlike conventional breeding boxes which are normally placed inside the tank, the Aqua Manta breeding box goes on the outside of the tank, resting on the edge of your aquarium, similar to how a hang-on filter sits on the outside of the tank. So how does it use the same water as the aquarium? The secret to this innovative new breeding box is in the use of an air pump! Water from the main tank is drawn into the box via the uplift pipe, which is attached to an air pump. Once the pump is turned on, water will flow into the box and when it reaches the top, it will return back to the main tank via the waterfall outlet, again, just like a hang-on filter. This means your breeding box will have a constant flow of fresh aquarium water, therefore, avoiding stale and stagnant water in the box. (This breeding box will not function properly without an air pump. Air pumps sold separately.)

We recommend Aqua Manta air pump models SP108 & SP150 to be used with the small and large breeding boxes respectively.
