Play them against each other, or see how they match up against the current greats!

 

HISTORIC TEAMS Set I:

 

1964-65 Boston Celtics: Boston wins it's 8th Championship. K.C. Jones, Sam Jones, Tom Heinsohn, Bill Russell and John Havlicek are all future hall of famers. Bill Russell is the league MVP.  

 

1985-86 Boston Celtics: Larry Bird wins his third consecutive league MVP award. The Celtics win their 16th Championship. Kevin McHale, Robert Parish, Dennis Johnson & Danny Ainge round out this elite starting five.

 

1992-93 Chicago Bulls: Michael Jordan is the finals MVP and Associated Press Athlete of the Year. The Bulls win their 3rd and last Championship before Jordan's first retirement. 

 

1988-89 Detroit Pistons: The original "Bad Boys" bring championship hardware to Detroit with a sweep of the Lakers in the finals. Bill Laimbeer, Isiah Thomas, Joe Dumars, Dennis Rodman lead a cast of colorful characters.

 

1993-94 Houston Rockets: Hakeem "the Dream" Olajuwon leads the Rockets to their first NBA Championship. Hakeem is league MVP and Defensive Player of the year. 

 

1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers: LA wins it's 6th Championship after going 69-13 in the regular season, a record that would stand for 24 years. Wilt Chamberlain leads the league in shooting percentage (.649).

 

1986-87 Los Angeles Lakers: The great Magic Johnson & Kareem Abdul-Jabbar lead an explosive team. The Lakers take the Celtics down in six & bring home a 10th Championship. Magic is the finals & league MVP.

 

1970-71 Milwaukee Bucks: Milwaukee wins a champtionship in only it's third season of existence. Lou Alcindor (he changes his name to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in the off-season) wins the Finals & League MVP honors. Oscar Robertson is a key acquisition for the run to a Championship. 

 

1994-95 Orlando Magic: Shaquille O'Neal is the League's Scoring Champion. The Magic are the Eastern Conference Champions, but are swept by Houston in the finals.

 

1984-85 Philadelphia 76’ers: Charles Barkley, "The Round Mound of Rebound's" rookie season. He joins a veteran team that includes Dr. J and Moses Malone. Despite a talent-laden roster, the Sixers cannot advance to the Eastern Conference Finals.

 

1990-91 Portland Trailblazers: An incredible 63-19 regular season record leads to a Pacific Division Champtionship, breaking a 9 year run by the LA Lakers. However, the Lakers would get revenge in Western Conference Finals. 

 

1997-98 Utah Jazz: The Jazz advance to the NBA Finals for the 2nd straight year, but the juggernaut Bulls dynasty prevails once again and denies Karl Malone & John Stockton championship glory. 

  

 

HISTORIC TEAMS SET II:

 

1986-87 Atlanta Hawks: Superstar Dominque Wilkins leads the Hawks to a Central Division Championship and second seed in the Eastern Conference.

 

1983-84 Boston Celtics: Boston wins 62 games and a 15th NBA Championship. Larry Bird wins league and finals MVP honors. Kevin McHale wins the NBA sixth man of the year award.

 

1995-96 Chicago Bulls: Arguably the greatest team of all time, the NBA champs win 72 regular season games and roll through the Eastern Conference playoffs. Michael Jordan is league and finals MVP. Phil Jackson wins NBA coach of the year. 

 

2002-03 Dallas Mavericks: Dirk Nowitzki and Steve Nash lead this offensive juggernaut all the way to the Western Conference finals. Nowitzki is lost to injury in Game 3 and so are the Mav's chances at a championship. 

 

1989-90 Detroit Pistons: The "Bad Boys" are back to back and better than ever. Dennis Rodman is named NBA Defensive Player of the Year. Isiah Thomas wins finals MVP honors. 

 

1997-98 Indiana Pacers: First year coach Larry Bird leads the Pacers all the way to the Eastern Conference finals where they take the Bulls to the brink. Reggie Miller is a star. Bird wins Coach of the Year honors.

 

1974-75 Kentucky Colonels: Artis Gilmore sets a record by playing a whopping 3,493 minutes! Gilmore, Dan Issel and Louie Dampier lead the Colonels to their first ABA title. Gilmore is named finals MVP. The ABA is beating the NBA consistently in exhibition games. 


1999-00 Los Angeles Lakers: The Lakers win 67 games and a 12th championship behind Shaq & Kobe. O'Neal is named finals and league MVP. Bryant at age 21 is emerging as a superstar. It's the first of three consecutive titles in the Shaq/Kobe era. 

 

2005-06 Miami Heat: Shaq's at it again. Miami wins it's first NBA title. Dwayne Wade is named finals MVP and Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year. 

 

1975-76 New York Nets: Superstar Julius Erving, AKA "Dr. J.", leads the Nets to their second championship in the last season of the ABA. Erving is named finals MVP.

 

1998-99 San Antonio Spurs: "The Admiral" David Robinson wins his first NBA title. Rookie Tim Duncan is outstanding and wins MVP honors in the finals. 

 

1995-96 Seattle Supersonics: If it weren't for the 95'-96' Bulls, we may be talking about this team as the greatest of all time. Be that as it may, the Sonics took Chicago to six games in the finals. Gary Payton is NBA Defensive Player of the Year. 


 

HISTORIC TEAMS Set III: 

 

1960-61 Boston Celtics: League MVP Bill Russell and Bob Cousy lead the Celtics to their fourth championship.

 

1990-91 Chicago Bulls: Da Bulls win their first championship and a dynasty is born. Jordan wins just about every individual award imaginable including league MVP and Associated Press Athlete of the Year.

 

2003-04 Detroit Pistons: Defense wins championships. Chauncey Billups earns finals MVP honors. Ben Wallace is named to the NBA All-Defensive First Team.  

 

1971-72 Indiana Pacers: Roger Brown, Mel Daniels and Freddie Lewis lead the Pacers to a second ABA championship. 

 

1981-82 Los Angeles Lakers: The Lakers are champions for the eigth time. Magic Johnson is named finals MVP. 

 

1972-73 New York Knicks: The Knicks defeat the Lakers 4 games to 1 to win their second championship. Willis Reed earns finals MVP honors.  

 

1982-83 Philadelphia 76'ers: One of the greatest teams of all-time. The Sixer's dominate the league going 65-17 in the regular season, and 12-1 in the playoffs behind the incredible play of Moses Malone, Julius Erving and Maurice Cheeks. Malone is named league MVP. 

 

 

1992-93 Phoenix Suns: One of the greatest teams to not win a championship. In his first season with the team, Sir Charles Barkley leads the Suns to a 62-20 record and wins league MVP honors. Ultimately, the Suns fall prey to the juggernaut that is the Chicago Bulls in the finals 2 games to 4. 

 

1976-77 Portland Trail Blazers: After finishing just third in the Western Conference, the Blazers catch fire in the playoffs and win their first championship despite losing their first two games against the 76'ers in the finals. Bill Walton is named finals MVP.  

 

2001-02 Sacramento Kings: Chris Webber's Kings rule the regular season with a 61-21 record, but can't get past the Lakers in the Western Conference finals.

 

2004-05 San Antonio Spurs: The Spurs win their third title defeating the defending champion Detroit Pistons in a hard-fought seven game series. Tim Duncan wins finals MVP honors. 

 

1977-78 Washington Bullets: A slow start and injuries make for a challenging regular season, but the third seeded Bullets put it all together in the playoffs and emerge as league champions for the first time in franchise history. Elvin Hayes is a beast. Wes Unseld is named finals MVP.
