1882 check (No. 2281) from the Banking House of Hoffman, Eavey & Co. of Hagerstown, MD.  The check was drawn on (or deposited to?) the National Exchange Bank, Baltimore, MD.  The check appears to be dated January 28, 1882 in the amount of $597.87, a significant sum of money in those days.  What is interesting and noteworthy about this rare and attractive piece is that the fiscal instrument had its fee paid using an engraved 2c United States Internal Revenue seal printed in gold directly onto the check.  The beautiful and highly detailed check is in superb condition -- extremely clean and fresh.  It is a Very Fine piece ready to enhance any collection of U.S. revenues or financial instruments.
