Rare French Antique Art Nouveau Fruit Dish/Bowl  – Tableware

An unusual and very eclectic silverplated fruit dish/bowl from the 1890’s – the Art Nouveau period – with an overhanging arm from which a serving spoon can be displayed to serve berries, or a pair of fine scissors for grapes or even a nutcracker for a dish of nuts.

The dish sits on four elaborate feet and the display part is decorated with very elegantly styles tiny strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and flowers. The edges have delicate curlicues – all very art nouveau motifs.

The overhanging extension is decorated with large leaves. It has a very faded hallmark and stamp on the bottom attachment.

The dish is in very good condition – very shiny with light traces of use. The dish is 9 ½ inches by 8 inches and to the top of the extension, it measures 71/2 inches high.

It is an unusual and rare piece, illustrative of the French passion for elaborate tableware to meet every presentation or serving need.
