Stunning vintage white ostrich feather fan in a mid century vintage Harrods Box. This came from the estate sale of a large country house in Cornwall some years ago. Hard to date the fan but it could be 1920/30s when these were popular for evening dress parties and events.

The fan measures 22 inches long and 9 inches width when closed.  When closed and laid flat it has a good curl. When open it has a width of 32”.   Feathers in very good condition but slightly dusty on the edges. One has slight marks (  photo 11 ). That said this is an amazing vintage fan with, no doubt, a fascinating history.

The bottom section of the fan is cream plastic and again in very good vintage condition. There are 10 blades each set with 2 complete feathers approximately 17 inches long.  None of the feather shafts are broken. The ribbon connecting the blades has started to come away at one end. ( photo 10)

The box it was stored in is an original Harrods Knightsbridge box, collectable in itself. The box is probably post war, late 1940s or 1950s, but hard to date. The bottom section is good vintage condition but the top section is rather battered - there is some mending on the top of the box and evidence of previous brown tape and clear plastic tape. This would make a fabulous gift for a fashion historian. The fan (particularly after specialist cleaning) would be of museum quality and would display well with the bottom section of the box which is in very good vintage condition.
