16 Very RARE Navy training films in cartoon
format by Grandpa Pettibone. On topics like Flight Safety, Crashes, Weather,
Carrier Landings, Disorientation on in flight and more.
This is a very rare collection of 16 film
cartoons by the US Navy. In 1943 along, The Navy had 20,000 Accidents!!! That's
20K!! in 1 year!! Most of it was due to Pilot Error, so the Navy came out with
these "Flight Safety Cartoons" to help cut down on these accidents.
In 1943, Lt. Robert Osborn, in collaboration
with Commander Seth Warner, created the “sage of safety” character for a column
in the BUAER News Letter produced by the Bureau of Aeronautics to address the
increasing aircraft mishap rate. Osborn’s illustrations commingled with
Warner’s narrative accounts of aircraft accidents. Following a description of a
mishap, the old curmudgeon aviator railed at young fliers for making stupid
mistakes. More than one aviator caught in a pinch in the sky has suddenly
remembered a timely pearl of wisdom from Gramps that helped the flier avoid a
costly- and perhaps fatal-error. The main character is Grampa Pettibone and he
is constantly Griping about Navy pilots who are making too many simple
mistakes!!!. Very, very, RARE. In the 5 yrs I've been looking at old films, I
have never seen this series for sale. Ever. More on Grampa Pettibone Series. We
hope you'll enjoy!
