Handmade San-Mai billet made by bladesmith.

1095 and 15n20 steel with nickel. 4.5mm thick 4x27cm.

I have used this type of sanmai steel a lot in my work as you can see from the sample blade. Once ground the cutting edge will be 1095 followed by a beautiful nickel line followed by 15n20. I prefer this steel to Damascus because In my opinion it looks just as nice with a simple eye catching line along the blade and spine and has a consistent cutting edge.

These billets are made to order, please allow 1-3 weeks manufacturing time. If you need it sooner please message and I’ll see what I can do.

The billet has been normalised and is drill able with carbide drills and decent hss drills. I’d recommend carbide tipped drills for good value when working with Damascus or sanmai. Normalising cycles are recommended when heat treating any laminated steel. Heat treat as 1095, there are lot of heat treat instructions on google/YouTube

I have bought Damascus from eBay many times before and occasionally found cracks and the use of cheap stock that didn’t harden as well as it should have so I started making my own and I can now guarantee the quality of the steel used as well as supply unusual and unique patterns and billets like this specially forged twist Damascus with a solid core.

I have not seen this kind of steel available for sale before so for anyone looking to improve the quality and uniqueness of there projects this piece is ideal.

I will be more than happy to make custom pieces including high layer Damascus, mosaic damascus and sanmai. Please feel free to message me with any questions or requests.
