Unique, scarce and beautifully made map or blueprint cabinet, Circa 1840. Finished on all four sides, which allow it to sit in the center of a room if desired, and be accessed from all angles. The top is green leather with a gilt patterned border, with flips open to double in size - the interior is also covered with the same leather. Made of rosewood, with identical arched panel motifs on all four sides - with the door side having glass inserts. Two solid rosewood bars extend to support the open top. Heavy hinges connect the two top panels. Shirred fabric is mounted on the inside of the doors. The left door has sliding brass bolts on both top and bottom to hold it secure, the right door has a key to secure the doors together. Exceptional and rare piece.
In excellent antique condition. Structurally without issue. The cabinet been refinished sometime in the last two decades or so - the leather has also been replaced and is extremely clean.
Measurements: 41.5" wide, 27" deep and 33.75" tall. The top is 54" x 41.5" when opened.
