This essence is more viscous and serves more as a concentrated serum while the toning lotion is more watery and serves as a toner + essence that can be layered on.
If you're looking for a slightly more viscous serum-type product, this concentrated essence is for you. If you're looking for a more watery essence-type product the toning lotion is great. Both products offer similar benefits, but the essence is slightly more concentrated and includes more squalane.
