DATE PRINTED: 1801 - these are from the improved second edition.

SIZE: The printed area of the view, including titles, is approximately 10 x 7.5 cm, 4 x 3 inches (small) on a sheet 12 x 21 cm, 5 x 8.25 inches.

PROVENANCE:  A plate published in ' The History and Topographical Survey of the County of Kent'  By Edward Hasted.  Originally published by W Bristow, Canterbury, 1797.  Edward Hasted (20 December 1732 OS (31 December 1732 NS) – 14 January 1812) was an English antiquarian and pioneering historian of his ancestral home county of Kent. As such, he was the author of a major county history, The History and Topographical Survey of the County of Kent (1778–99).  The History and Topographical Survey of the County of Kent was first published in four folio volumes between 1778 and 1799. A second edition appeared in 12 octavo volumes between 1797 and 1801.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Eltham Palace is a large house in Eltham, within the Royal Borough of Greenwich, in south-east London, England. It is an unoccupied royal residence and owned by the Crown Estate. In 1995 its management was handed over to English Heritage which restored the building in 1999 and opened it to the public. It has been said the internally Art Deco house is a "masterpiece of modern design". The original palace was given to Edward II in 1305 by the Bishop of Durham, Anthony Bek, and used as a royal residence from the 14th to the 16th century.
