SPANISH AMERICAN WAR PHOTOGRAPH GILLESPIE FIRST REGIMENT US VOLUNTEER ENGINEERS

Original photograph of Captain Lawrence Lewis Gillespie and the first regiment United States volunteer engineers in the Philippines from around 1900. Some information on him: Banker of 11 East Eighty-ninth st., New York City, was born Dec. 23 1876, in Chicago, Ill. he received the degree of A.B. from Harvard college. He has traveled throughout the world. He served in the Spanish-American war as lieutenant and acting captain in the first regiment United States volunteer engineers. He became vice-president of the Equitable Trust company of New York City; and in 1910 retired to enter the banking firm of J. S. Bache and company. He is a director of the Greenwich Savings bank and other corporations."

Writing on the back says "Lawrence Lewis Gillespie, left center grey uniform, with his regiment in the Philippines.".

This is from the estate of Eileen Slocum in Newport, Rhode Island.
