Use high-speed/high-velocity machining process

REQUIREMENTS
• High RPM/high feed rate capable CNC machining center
• Reduced neck style high performance carbide end mills

APPROACH
• Machine at highest available RPM
• Machine at high feed rates
• Take axial cuts up to 20% of tools diameter
• Take radial cuts up to full diameter of the tool
• Leave at least 5% of tool diameter for the finish pass
• This 5% will change depending on the thickness of the wall, feed rates, and desired finishes Machine in a “waterfall-like” manner (as shown in the example below)

Large part with 6 pockets milled to a .450 final “Z” depth, taking 3 passes at Z-.150 each.
