The spools/tubes which the threads are wound on are of Yellow plastic. The "M" in the "M1003" model designation stands for Gutermann's Mara line of threads. More recent Gutermann spools of this same weight thread are labeled "Mara 30". Most if not all of these spools are labeled "M1003".

 Applications include decorative seams, jeans, raised buttonholes, leather goods jackets and coats, bags and shoes.
