1960-61 NHL SEASON TEAM CARD SET


Montreal's run of 5 consecutive Stanley Cup titles comes to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they are caught off guard by a young, hungry Chicago Blackhawks team. A deep, powerful defense led by Pierre Pilote, Al Arbour, Elmer Vasco and Jack Evans, and solid goaltending by Glenn Hall carry the Blackhawks all the way to a 4-2 final's victory over Detroit...Chicago's first Stanley Cup since 1938. It was the first time two American-based teams faced each other in the finals for over a decade. The Redwings (25-29-16) pull off a big playoff upset of it's own, cruising past the Toronto Maple Leafs (39-19-12) in only five games. Legendary Detroit winger Gordie Howe reaches 1000 career regular season points. Montreal's Bernie Geoffrion is the league's top scorer and Hart Memorial Tropy winner (MVP). Toronto's Johnny Bower claims the Vezina Trophy as the league's top goaltender.

1961-62 NHL SEASON TEAM CARD SET:

For the second straight year, the top ranked Montreal Canadiens lose in six games to the Chicago Blackhawks in the first round of the playoffs. However, this time around  Chicago is unable to repeat as champs. The deeply talented Toronto Maple Leafs seize control of the Stanley Cup, taking down the Blackhawks 4 games to 2. The Leaf's squad features exceptional balance across all lines and superior goaltending by Johnny Bower. Frank Mahovlich, Red Kelly and Dave Keon are among the stars of this bunch.

Chicago's Bobby Hull and New York's Andy Bathgate tie as the league's top point scorers (80). Hull is the leading goal scorer (50). Montreal's Jacque Plante (42-14-14, 2.37 GAA) wins both the Vezina Trophy and Hart Memorial Trophy as the league's best goalie and MVP. The Ranger's Doug Harvey, acquired in a trade with the Montreal Canadiens, wins the James Norris Trophy as the top defenseman.

1962-63 NHL SEASON TEAM CARD SET


Toronto wins its second consecutive Stanley Cup in a tightly matched playoff pool...only 5 points separates the number one Maple Leafs from the 4th place Detroit Redwings. Montreal and Chicago are sandwiched in between. However, come playoff time Toronto's deep & balanced squad will distinguish themselves from the pack in grandiose fashion. The Leaf's start out by pounding the Canadien's 4 games to 1 in the Semi Finals, then go on to do the same to Detroit in the Finals. Leaf's "near-sighted" goalie Johnny Bower is fantastic throughout the playoff run and finishes the post season with a 1.60 GAA. Redwing's legend Gordie Howe is getting better with age. Howe, with 86 Points, is the league's leading scorer & Most Valuable Player. Chicago's Glenn Hall (2.55 GAA) claims the Vezina Trophy as top goaltender.

1963-64 NHL SEASON TEAM CARD SET

For the second year in a row, the exact same teams match up against each other in the playoffs with the same victors. But it is the first time in league history all three playoff series achieve a full seven games. The finals between Toronto and Detroit is one of the most exciting of all time, featuring two overtime games and five decided by one point. In the end, the Maple Leafs oust the Red Wings and hoist their third consecutive Stanley Cup. Montreal trades the great Jacques Plante to New York and the future hall of famer struggles in the net with his new sub par teammates. The Canadiens Jean Beliveau (28 g, 50 a) wins Hart Memorial honors as league MVP. Chicago's Stan Mikita (89 points) brings home the Art Ross trophy as the league's top scorer and adds 146 penalty minutes. Mikita's teammate Bobby Hull scores 43 goals. Montreal's net minder Charlie Hodge wins the Vezina. Boston's Eddie Johnston is the first goalie ever to play every minute of all 70 games.

Montreal ends Toronto's three year reign as champions by beating them four games to two in the first round of the playoffs. The Canadiens go on to hoist their 13th Stanley Cup, defeating the Chicago Blackhawks in a finals series that stretches to seven games. Detroit's 87 regular season points are tops in the league. The Blackhawk's Bobby Hull brings home Hart Memorial honors as league MVP, while Montreal's Jean Beliveau wins the first ever Conn Smythe Trophy for MVP of the playoffs. Stan Mikita is the league's top scorer with with 87 points (28 goals, 59 assists). 40 year old Johnny Bower (2.38 gaa) and Terry Sawchuk (2.56 gaa) of Toronto are the best goalie tandem in the league and receive the Vezina Trophy.

Montreal wins a second consecutive Stanley Cup (the 14th in team history) defeating Detroit 4 games to 2 in the finals. Gordie Howe eclipses the 600 goal mark for the Redwings. The Canadiens lead the league with 90 points. Chicago's Bobby Hull wins Hart Memorial honors as league MVP again, and also leads the league in scoring with 97 points (54 goals, 43 assists). Montreal's Gump Worsley and Charlie Hodge win the Vezina trophy, while fellow goaltender Roger Crozier claims the Conn Smythe trophy as the MVP of the playoffs for Detroit. Toronto's Brit Selby wins Calder Memorial honors as the league's best first-year player.

1965-66 NHL SEASON TEAM CARD SET



In this 50th season of the NHL, the underdog Toronto Maple Leafs (75 pts) catch fire in the playoffs and upset Chicago (94) and Montreal (77) 4 to 2 in the semi-finals, and finals respectively to win their 13th Stanley Cup. It is the Leaf's last championship to date. This season marks the last of the "Original Six" teams, as the league will expand to 12 teams the very next year. Chicago's Stan Mikita (35 goals 62 assists) claims Hart Memorial honors as league MVP and also wins the Art Ross trophy as top point scorer. Dennis DeJordy and Glenn Hall, also of Chicago, win Vezina honors as the best goalie tandem of the season, while Blackhawk's Bobby Hull leads the league in goals scored with 52. Despite all the accolades, the Hawk's cannot get past the Maple Leafs in the playoffs. Bruin's legend Bobby Orr wins the Calder Memorial trophy as rookie of the year.
