Cleopatra chandelier by H. Petitot

A large French 1933 art deco chandelier in chromed brass or bronze by the famous Paris based company of Hubert Petitot holding four slip shades and four side-shades. These shades were produced for Petitot by the Muller freres glass factories. This model is referred to as "Cleopatra" in the old catalogs. The bronze maker Alexandre Petitot started his company in 1878. His son Alexandre Hubert took over around 1917. The Paris based company of Petitot was a wholesale selling its lamps to lighting shops all over France Europe and the States. Together with Hettier & Vincent Petitot became the largest producer of French art deco lighting in the late 20s and early 30s. Petitot produced precious fixtures in high quality bronze with shades from the best French glass manufacturers.

The Cleopatra shades are made of thick frosted pressed glass. These horizontal and vertical ribbed shades are frosted on both in and outside. The side-shades are signed petitot. The mounting is marked with the usual Petitot initials AP for Alexandre Petitot.

The chandelier has a drop of 80,5 cm (31-11/16") and a diameter of 66,5 cm (26-3/16").  It is in excellent condition. One of the slip shades has a chip on the rim, completely hidden by the mount. The fixture still has its original chrome plating that hardly shows any wear. In the 20s art deco mounts were often nickeled. Chrome plating was a new invention that in France was first used for lighting fixtures in 1933. This Cleopatra chandelier was made around 1933-35. It is represented in the 1933 Petitot catalog.

The chandelier is newly wired. It holds four American standard sockets and four American candelabra base ones. For European countries I will place E27 and E14 sockets.

Free worldwide shipping. The chandelier will be shipped in several parcels with full insurance by priority airmail.
