Thackeray only began writing when he lost his fortune in a banking crash, describing his journalism as writing for his life. However he was a popular writer and became known for his pieces in various magazines and is known to have popularised the word 'snob'. Here we have a collection of some of his best works that parody and attack high society, military prowess, and marriage and hypocrisy.
