Use either type bulb or some of each type
With the LED lights the DC current from the battery or transformer has to run from the positive side of the power source to the positive bulb socket connection and the negative side of the power source to the negative socket connection.
The on the machines light socket center contact is positive and the threaded case connection is negative.
Incandescent bulbs will work with current flowing either way but LED work hooked up as mentioned.
You can always hook up the power source in reverse by swapping cables on terminals to reverse current flow if needed to light the LED lights or use a combination of both type bulbs.
