Description

This was the fourth coin released in 2012 in the First Spouse Gold Coin Series.  It features Frances Cleveland.  It is a one-half ounce, 24-karat gold coin struck in proof quality, giving it a frosted foreground and a mirror-like background.  The obverse features a portrait of Frances Cleveland.  The reverse depicts an event emblematic of Mrs. Cleveland’s popularity with the public.  Please review the photos carefully.  The coin in these photos is the coin you will receive.

 

2012 marked the sixth year of the First Spouse Gold Coin Series, the United States Mint’s first coin program to feature our Nation’s first spouses.  A minimum of four one-half ounce, $10 24-karat gold coins are minted and released annually in the order the spouses served in the position.  The coins are minted in proof and specimen uncirculated qualities.  Each First Spouse Gold Coin coincides with the release of the corresponding circulating Presidential $1 Coin.  In 2012, the United States Mint released four coins in the series – Alice Paul and the Suffrage Movement, Frances Cleveland (first term), Caroline Harrison, and Frances Cleveland (second term).

 

The obverse of this coin was designed by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program Associate Designer Barbara Fox and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Phebe Hemphill.  The reverse was designed and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Joseph Menna.
