DAHLIA POMPONE DOUBLE (Dahlia pinnata variabilis) |
They are easy-to-grow and so versatile in the landscape. This Dahlia variety with small double flowered pompon flowers. The bright color mix is an asset to the border where they will create an outstanding focal point. The flowers are ideal for cutting as well. A single plant, grown from Dahlia flower seed, will produce plenty of flowers for many bouquets. It's a classic cut flower with tubular looking petals which makes a beautiful filler around shrubs. The individual blooms may be small, but they are perfectly formed and are produced in abundance. These balls of color are simply superb for cutting for their perfect form can be really appreciated in a vase. SOWING: Sow in Spring (March - June) Fill cells or pots with a free-draining, seed sowing compost, and stand in water so that the compost is thoroughly damp, then allow to drain. As soon as the plants are large enough to handle (approx. 3 weeks), prick out into 7cm (3in) pots to grow on at 15 to 18°C (59 to 65°F). Harden off and plant outdoors 30 to 45cm (12 to 18in) apart in soil with a good nutrient content. Take prevention against slugs – they love Dahlia seedlings! Germination within 7-21 days at 18 to 20°C (65 to 68°F) Cannot grow in the shade, prefers moist soil. |
