Wrigley Field 1937 Renovation- Building the Brick Wall and the Bleachers 16"x 20"  Print Poster
Home of Chicago Cubs

In 1937 the Chicago Cubs took on a major renovation of Wrigley Field by rebuilding the entire outfield seating from pole to pole. Construction began on July 5 when the Cubs were out of town, and was finally ready on Sept. 5. What they built is pretty much what you see today. Bill Veeck, future White Sox owner and son of the former Cubs President William Veeck, was charged by PK Wrigley with completing the project, including new brick walls and planting ivy on the newly built wall. The planting was done late in the 1937 season, but the ivy really did not take until the next season. This is a great shot of the bricklayers building the RF wall.
