Black chokeberry

Latin name: Aronia melanocarpa

Black chokeberry is native to North America. It is a 1 to 3 m (3.3-9.9 ft) high, deciduous, very frost-hardy shrub.
It overwinters in snow and frosts of down to -35 ° C. Chokeberries prefer a sunny spot.
It is hardly susceptible to fungal attack and other diseases.
Black, vitamin-rich, sour, tart berries develop from their white flowers by midsummer.
These berries have a diameter of 5 to 10 mm (0.2-0.4 in), and are eaten by birds.
In traditional medicine, the plant is used in a variety of ways as a medicinal remedy.
