This useful and revealing book covers the eight different Moulton and Raleigh-produced mini models manufactured between 1966 and 1974. (Even the little licence-built Tri-ang Junior 1970 and 1980 bicycles have a small section of their own!) It has been written for the new owner, potential buyer, keen restorer, Moulton enthusiast, cycling historian or just the simply curious and there should be something inside to appeal to everyone.

The original 1966 Motor Cycle and Cycle Trader magazine interview with Dr. Moulton is reproduced to provide an insight into, and define his aims for, the new range of Moulton mini bicycles. There is a quick and easy guide to the full mini range of Moulton bicycles to provide some clarification and to help the reader better understand the differences between the various models. It also explains how some models appeared to retain their name and model number but changed their specification whilst others (basically) kept the same specification but had a name change!

Read an account of how Alex Moulton’s new bicycle design was born in a fascinating reprint of an original 1964 article with pictures of some of the early development machines. Then, compare the evolution of the design on the following pages showing pictures of various pre-production bikes.

In the main section, all the Moulton mini models (including the Tri-ang Junior 1970 and Junior 1980) are described in full detail to enable the owner / buyer / restorer to establish exactly how the machine would have appeared when it was made in the middle 1960’s or early 1970’s.

To help future restorers, wherever possible, reference numbers in parenthesis from the various parts, components and accessories catalogues available at the time have been added. Most small components were supplied by either Phillips or (later on) Raleigh so it shouldn’t be too difficult to identify those missing parts. Moulton and Raleigh advertising material has been used throughout to help the reader get a feel for the ‘swinging’ sixties and ‘sexy’ seventies when these machines were produced.

See how the Moulton mini was produced in the Kirkby, Liverpool factory in 1966. There are 16 black and white photographs to illustrate frame assembly, painting, component assembly, wheel building, final assembly and the despatch areas.

A section from the Raleigh Dealership Cycle Preparation Wall Chart is reproduced to show how Moulton cycles should have been prepared and displayed in shops to attract sales.
