Circa 1901 Peter's Chocolate Promotional Spoon!

In 1887 Daniel Peter (1936-1919) changed the world of chocolate with the introduction of the first successful milk chocolate in the entire world. Peter had been working in the local, Moudon, Switzerland food store of the widow, Madame Clement who also owned a candle making factory. Daniel and his brother, Julian eventually ended up operating the candle making factory while Madame Clement retained control. With the discovery of oil and the introduction of kerosene in 1859, the candle business no longer could support both brothers. Daniel eventually turned his focus to the manufacture of chocolate with the support of his wife wife, Fanny (Cailler), as it would be in competition of the Cailler family business. In the following years, Daniel developed a strong friendship with his neighbor, Henry Nestle who had developed a process to make baby food in which he used what he called a milky flour." Daniel asked the question why not try to combine their efforts to make a chocolate containing milk? And, as they say, the rest is history!

This wonderful approximate 5½" long promotional spoon for Peter's Chocolate was made by Cecilware Silverware.
