This beautiful retractable comb is stamped on the top "B & B Co. Pat. April 25, 192_" (with the last number missing as it was not stamped hard enough by the engraver/maker/metalsmith).

It measures 4-1/4" wide x 5/8" wide (when retracted) and 1-1/4" wide when the comb is open.  It has a lovely curved shape to curve to the shape of the head, probably to smooth out lady's hair styles that were very close to the scalp during the 1920's.

It has a beautiful hand painted pink rose with green leaves that is pained on a white rectangular shaped white guilloche medallion, that is set with a gold band around the rectangle.  I didn't find any gold markings, but it appears to be gold plated. The black part of the comb is not paint, but porcelain enamel with no chips or cracks in it - just in great shape!

On the top of the comb is a small slide-lever that is pushed from left to right and extends the comb. It is the perfect size to put inside a lady's beaded bag of the era, and in fact, that is where I found it, in a beaded bag that I currently am selling in one of my other listings.  Based on its age, I would think that the comb part it is made from tortoise shell, and has no damage to the comb tines.

It's a rare item, as I haven't seen any others listed on eBay currently!

Note: the shipping cost includes the price of insurance and a "signature required" upon delivery.
