Up for sale is a great, antique steel engraving of 7 Illinois homes/business - The largest engraving is of the Ullin Lime & Rock Cos Works - The five smaller engravings are of the Farm Residence of Rob. Summers, the Farm Residence of Mr. Gilg Schmid, the Residence of James E. Gowan, MD, the Farm Residence of Wm. W. Evers, the Illinois Souther Hospital for the Insane and The Residence of Cornwall Kirkpatrick - Illinois - 1876".
It measures approximately 14 1/2 x 17 1/2 inches, including the border area.
On the reverse side are several other engravings - The Illinois Conservatory of Music in Jacksonville, Illinois, The Congregational Church in Maywood, Cook County, the Young Ladies Atheneum in Jacksonville, the Maywood Hotel, and the Leland Hotel in Springfield.
This engraving is from the "Atlas of the State of Illinois - To Which Are Added Various General Maps - History, Statistics and Illustrations. Union Atlas Company, Warner & Beers, Proprietors. Lakeside Building Cor. of Clark & Adams Streets. - Chicago 1876 by Warner & Beers.
It is a great piece of history! NOTE: There are tears along one of the edges from where it was separated from the binding of the Atlas.
The engraving is generally in very good condition. There is some age related browning, as well as some spotting and stains. The map has some small tears and chips around the edges, but they do not affect the map. Some other stains and dings here and there, as well. A larger tear (along with some spotting) from the bottom edge that extends into the Ullin Lime & Rock engraving.
This very nice engraving would be a great addition to any collection and will look very nice when framed!
