Detroit TV Magazine/Guide Feat. Jonathan Winters Suzanne Pleshette Mitzi Gaynor Gene Barry
Description:
Vintage 5” X 6-1/2” TV Magazine that was included with the Sunday Detroit News. It was intended to compete with/replace TV Guide, but tended to have shorter cover stories and articles. The shows/showtimes and crossword puzzle are NOT included. The original collector only saved the articles and photos. It also featured a weekly “TV Star Album” photo with scrapbook corners in the photo like an old-school photo album had—in this case; Nancy Ames (with a guitar) from That Was The Week That Was.
This issue includes Jonathan Winters in his Maude Frickert costume on the cover and an accompanying story titled: The Wacky World Of Jonathan Winters.” The article says Winters’ NBC Special includes Art Carney and The New Christy Minstrels, and Jonathan is quoted saying: “I don’t do jokes, I only do people.” In the interior he’s shown in his guises as Boom Boom Bailey, Sir Trafalgar, and two others.
There’s a nice photo of Mitzi Gaynor, who’s profiled touting her song and dance on CBS-TV’s The Ed Sullivan Show on The Beatles’ second appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show “Live.”
Suzanne Pleshette is also pictured with a shaggy dog promoting a Dr. Kildare appearance.
Gary Conway & Gene Barry get a page with a photo and a write up on Burke’s Law.
Rear cover is an ad for a super sale at Sun Control (Awnings, Patios, Fun Rooms) Home Improvement Center. The rear cover of all of these magazines had a coupon stuck to them as there’s consistent slight adhesive damage (to every one I have) to the rear cover where a coupon was removed.
Condition:
This item is graded in VG- condition because of slight tearing around the staples that hold the pages together that presumably happened when the TV Listings were removed. The shows/showtimes and crossword puzzle are NOT included. The original collector only saved the articles and photos.
Ships promptly in the U.S.A. (via Media Mail) in a padded envelope reinforced with cardboard to protect your item, or choose the First Class option if you prefer.
